Leo BlumeMemberCan I just go crazy and install 3.3 + all of the Europa goodies and still expect full functionality of MEI?
Also, given the recent problems with update sites on the Mac and Linux, is there a specific advantage to using update sites at all?
I was curious and on my Vista box I downloaded and installed the all-in-one. Much to my surprise, it uses the links/MyEclipse…link rather than a <site …/> in the platform.xml file under configuration.
Now I’m totally confused about the Eclipse update mechanism (IMO, it’s broken in its general design — just too many failure points along the way and no useful diagnostics to the end user, and having worked on updater products myself (10k desktops successfully updated overnight for instance with no human intervention), I know it’s possible and it’s not all that difficult but that’s perhaps another topic…)
Seriously, what should I never even think of installing next to MEI? Even to the point of keybindings going amok?

Not likely *all* of Europa… in theory everything should work fine, in practice there are so many touch points and overlapping library dependencies that I doubt even *all* of Europa works seamless with itself with every single feature.
Then you factor in MyEclipse ships almost all the level 1 dependencies of Europa and is built ontop of some of the biggest projects out of it, and you can start to see why you can run into conflicts.

Sorry about that, that was a packaging mistake on our part.

Absolutely. When they work they give you a seamless upgrade path.

You’ll notice that the Quick Install MyEclipse has, does not use the Update Manager… it’s an easier and faster experience for users. We will be improving this going forward.

I have no idea… that’s too big of a question… if you have specific plugins in mind, I might be able to help guide you just from what I’ve seen in the forums.
