I’m having a heck of a time updating to the 7.1 release via the update manager.

The updates start and there is activity happening, i.e there are files downloading, however after some time ~30minutes I keep getting the following error.

I have tried this update from three different sites that I support as well as from home, so is not a network issue I have also disabled my local firewall as well and I know two of these site use different ISPs.

not as yet, I will probably have to un-install and re-install. I’m first going to try from updating from within pulse explorer

OK I’ve done some more testing.

This time I created a new profile in pulse and selected the install and run for that profile. Downloading commenced and getting good bit rates ~50K per file. This went on until approx 3/4 of the way through the install then noticed that the downloading files started stalling one at a time, at different intervals, i.e. they all didn’t start stalling at the same time. first one stalled, and the others were happy downloading at increased bitrates, then another and so on until eventually the errors above are displayed. This always appears to be happening at around the same time/place in the install.

Are there session/traffic limits at the pulse server end? this time I sat and watched the process and it was approx an hour into it nearly to the second.

Hey Stephen,

Sorry that you are having trouble. About failsafe, when you try to install plugins/updates from a 3rd party update site, many times their sites are down or temporarily unavailable and it prevents users from installing the plug-in. In MyEclipse 7.0 and above, we try to prevent your plugin installation/update from failing and that includes a failover mechanism where-in if you can’t get the plugin you are looking for, we try to get the exact same plugin from our own repository. In this case it seems that both the update site and our own repository is failling.

Can you tell me, if you are behind a firewall/proxy?

This problem is an issue with your site and bandwidth. I just tried downloading the full installer and it bounces around from 10KB to 80KB at any given point in the download (and mostly below 30KB). So I started another download from another site (subclipse) and that download ran consistantly at 60KB+. I cannot run the update as I get the same errors as everyone above AND I cannot download the 7.1 installer as it would take over 3 hours. Everyone in MyEclipse support should go home and try to update/download and let us know if you don’t have the same problem!

I tend to agree, I have tried from many different sites and getting the same issues, which to me points back to the pulse/download servers. Methinks that myeclipse might need to revisit bittorrent files again for full installs, or even a bittorrent enabled Pulse client?

Finally to resolve my original issue I had to download the full installer, completely remove both pulse and myeclipse, then re-installed, now all working again. And yes the full install took many hours to download.

Guys,
Can you’ll please try again *right now*? We have 4 download servers for MyEclipse that are load-balanced through the world — during a release they do get pegged, and even then we have failover server on Pulse’s site which is *again* another farm of redundant servers to host missing files — it’s a pretty robust server setup. If there was something ailing it due to load, I’m hoping it’s past now.

I still can’t get pulse to work at all. It just “stalls” on everything it tries to download.

At this point though too much wasted time and frustration so if Pulse is here to stay then I am out.

Guys, I think somehow corrupted bundles got mirrored on our failsafe site and due to the stalls from *other* official mirrors, Pulse is optimizing the connection to fall back to failsafe for the fastest performance, is picking up the corrupted bundles and then when it goes to validate them after the download (compared metadata information to the actual bundle information to verify the bundle) it is failing out.

We are investigating right now…

Quick Update: We hand-checked the JARs originally reported by madeinoz on the 12th in the failsafe repository and they are all valid, we also hand-checked the p2 metadata that describes the entire install to the provisioning system, and they are all correct and match the sizes reported on disk.

madeinoz, are you behind a proxy or firewall at work? We have seen a handful of overly aggressive proxies caching invalid bundles screw up provisioning before (Even installer downloading) — take the ICEfaces JAR for example, it’s roughly 26mb, but your download is actually “finished” and verified to be 2.4k — that almost sounds like it’s getting replaced on you mid-stream.

I am behind a firewall only no proxy unless there are transparent upstream proxies by the ISPs, but I’ve tried from about 4 different sites, 2 of which know use different providers and I’ve never had problems in the past, I control the firewalls at each site so I know there is nothing out of the ordinary there, just standard port filtering. As mentioned all appears to run ok for an hour doing it’s thing, then slowly one by one they start stalling, then eventually it fails with the above errors.
