For the third time, I find that your updated software isn’t good enough. I now have to reinstall 3.8 beta2 for the third time. I’m very disappointed. I have no choice but to reinstall beta2, since I don’t have the time do debug your new version.

Eclipse crashes without warning after 1 minute after startup every time. I think it might be related to JSP stuff.

I upgraded from beta2 by uninstalling it, opening eclipse to ensure it was gone, and then installing the new one after closing eclipse. Same procedure as always. Should I have done anything different?

Additional information:

I used the windows installer downloaded from your site. I checked the version of myEclipse in preferences, it stated 3.8.1, the wrong one.

The crash i referred to is more specifically a JVM termination, it disappears and I’m left with a box reporting about a JVM crash.

Actually, the problem you’re experiencing has to do to three bugs in the way Eclipse caches update configurations. This problem is documented in our posts on how to properly use the update site here:

Also, the changes from 3.8 Beta 2 to the current version are not really “updatable” due to the vast number of changes. The only proper way to test the new software, while not disrupting your current configuration, is to install a fresh release of Eclipse 3.0.1 and MyEclipse 3.8.2. Try it out with a new workspace, then with a duplicate of your existing workspace. I think you’ll find it’s both very stable and much more feature-rich than 3.8 Beta 2. The issue you keep having is due to the mechanism you’re using to reinstall/upgrade and I realize that that can be frustrating when you don’t know the cause. Testing a parallel version will allow you a fair comparison without disrupting your current work.
