I have the Angular IDE plugin (1.8.2) installed in a Neon (4.6.3) eclipse installation for evaluation. When I try to use the TypeScript editor I get an exception (full text below). I believe this is because the plugin installed its own copy of NodeJS rather than use the copy in my C:\xxxxx\Software\NodeJS folder. Our workstations are pretty locked down and the only place from which we can launch executables is the C:\xxxxx folder or its sub-folders.

Is there a way to override WebClipse to use an existing NodeJS installation, either during installation or post-install? I looked for a standard “home” environment variable for NodeJS but there doesn’t seem to be one.

    Here’s the full exception:

java.lang.RuntimeException: java.io.IOException: Cannot run program “C:\Users\xxxxxx\.webclipse\nodejs\node-v4.2.4-win32-x86_64\node.exe” (in directory “C:\workspaces\SOT\Neon\dm\.metadata\.plugins\com.genuitec.eclipse.typescript\bridge9”): CreateProcess error=1260, This program is blocked by group policy. Jeff,

I have filed an enhancement request for the dev team to allow users to change the .webclipse folder location.

You can set the global Node.js in the TypeScript preferences page. Go to Window > Preferences > TypeScript and set the Node path to your global install of Node.js.

You should also configure the Terminal+ view to use the global node.js install for the project. In the Terminal+ view, there is an icon besides the Project field to open the CLI preferences. In the CLI preferences page ,please uncheck the Node.js version in the ‘Installed automatically’ section.

Attached is the screenshot for your reference.

Hope this helps. Please let us know how it works for you.

Thanks! I’d zoomed down to look on the WebClipse preferences page and didn’t even see the TypeScript page.

    There are related issues.

    1. If you click the link for “Try an example Angular application…” It extracts Node.JS and NPM into your C:\Users folder, and the EXEs fail with the same error
    2. If you create a new project, the EXEs will fail dring initialization

Ideally, the WebClipse plugin should honor whatever NODE_HOME is pointing at, but the workaround is to remember to go to Window->Preferences->Typescript and point that workspace to the copy of Node.js in your corporate approved location for executables. This must be a version lower than 8.
