bdbrown66MemberHello. I am using MyEclipse 7.0. The problem is that I would like to turn off **all** of the auto-update features of Pulse. We use WebSense here at work to monitor internet usage, and last month I had almost 50 hours of usage due to Eclipse “phoning home”. The primary offenders were http://www.poweredbypulse.com, 67.202.28.51, and 75.101.204.80. I thought I had turned off all of this stuff, but I either missed something, or it’s being persistent behind the scenes. Let me be clear…I do not want it checking for updates or anything else unless I initiate it manually. How can I do this?
Thank you,
Brian
Loyal WaterMemberBrian,
You should go to MyEclipse > Manage MyEclipse Plugins and uncheck “Show Dashboard on startup”. That should do the trick.
bdbrown66MemberYou might think so. I had done that quite some time ago, and that did stop the annoying dashboard stuff whenever I started the IDE. But that hasn’t stopped the “phone home” behavior…I have the network logs to prove it. And everytime ME does that, I get dinged for 3 minutes of internet access. I leave my IDE up all night, so it’s a major problem.
Loyal WaterMemberbdbrown66,
Can you download the Archive Update site installer that has no Pulse and setup MyEclipse using this installer with Eclipse 3.4.1. We are going to work on fixing that in a future release
bdbrown66MemberWhere do I download it from? Can you give me a link?
support-joyMemberYou need to go to the download site in http://www.myeclipseide.com, accept the license agreement, click on download ME7.1. It is the 5th option. It will read as *Manual Installs 7.1.1*
bdbrown66MemberNow I’m confused. Nipun said to download the Archive Update site installer, which is option 4 on the download page, and Joy said to download the Manual Installs installer, which is option 5. Which one is correct???
support-joyMemberOops sorry for the confusion. My Bad. Please download the archive update site installe which is the 4th option, as suggested by Nipun.
bdbrown66MemberThank you. It’s installed and working. I’ll keep an eye on the network logs.
support-joyMemberGood to hear you have everything under control.
bdbrown66MemberOne last question…I have everything working as described, no Pulse, etc. However, when I reboot my PC and then start up Eclipse, it wants to update it’s indexes for Maven, apparently. I get a pop-up asking for my username and password for our proxy, and when I cancel out of that it says, “Unable to update index for central http://repo1.maven.org/maven2/”. We don’t use Maven, so can I remove this or turn it off somehow?
Loyal WaterMemberYou can go to Windows > Prefs > MyEclipse > Maven4MyEclipse > Maven and uncheck “Download Repository index updates on startup”.
bdbrown66MemberI don’t have that as an option. I go to Windows > Prefs > MyEclipse > Maven4MyEclipse and the only two options are (1) Enable Maven4MyEclipse features, and (2) Enable all m2eclipse features. Both are unchecked.
Loyal WaterMemberUnder Windows > Prefs > MyEclipse > Maven4MyEclipse there is another node called Maven. Thats where you will see the option. Incase you cant see it, can you expand the nodes and send me a screenshot.
