I’m experiencing some performance problems with the Database Explorer. I’m connecting to an Oracle 9i database, with a schema containing a couple hundred tables. When I click the tree to open that schema it takes several minutes to bring up the list of tables. This makes working in this perspective very frustrating. How can we speed this up?

    I’m working with Eclipse 3.0, MyEclipse 3.8.1+QF20040825

    Thanks.

    David,
There is a new feature that will be in 3.8.2 where you can trim down the schemas that are loaded from the DB when you open it, just for this reason exactly.

    David –

Also, in the current release, there is a very poorly labelled preference (under Window -> Preferences -> MyEclipse -> Database Explorer) labelled “Tables and column auto-completing…” that is checked by default, This really means “load everything on connection”. If you uncheck the pref you should get better performance (although there are still some problems even in unchecking the thing; these will be resolved in 3.8.2)

I just updated to 3.8.2 and it is MUCH better. Thank you very much!
