I can start Eclipse 3.2 by clicking on its icon, and I can get Eclipse to indicate that MyEclipse has been installed, but whenever I click on the MyEclipse icon, the IDE reports an error and does not start. Looking in the log, I find something that begins:

!SESSION 2006-09-20 20:07:41.953 ———————————————–
eclipse.buildId=I20051102-1600
java.version=1.6.0-beta2
java.vendor=Sun Microsystems Inc.
BootLoader constants: OS=win32, ARCH=x86, WS=win32, NL=en_US
Framework arguments: -product com.genuitec.myeclipse.product.ide
Command-line arguments: -os win32 -ws win32 -arch x86 -product com.genuitec.myeclipse.product.ide

!ENTRY org.eclipse.core.runtime 2006-09-20 20:07:46.125
!MESSAGE Product com.genuitec.myeclipse.product.ide could not be found.

!ENTRY org.eclipse.osgi 2006-09-20 20:07:46.156
!MESSAGE Application error
!STACK 1

etc., etc.

I have installed and uninstalled (and run eclipse with -clean) MyEclipse several times in hopes of getting this problem to go away, but to no avail. Could it be caused by the fact that I installed MyEclipse in C:\Local\MyEclipse5.0GA\ instead of the standard location? This doesn’t seem likely, as both the MyEclipse icon’s properties and the Eclipse IDE show the correct location.

If I open the Configuration panel, I see MyEclipse Enterprise Workbench 5.0.1 and, if I expand that, 15 subitems. If I examine Other Perspectives, I find MyEclipse Image Editor. There is even a MyEclipse menu between Project and Run.

Where should com.genuitec.myeclipse.product.ide be found? Any ideas why it isn’t?

Thanks,
Richard

Richard,
Problem #1 is that you are running what I think is a very old milestone build of Eclipse 3.2 and MyEclipse 5.0.1 *requires* the final GA release of Eclipse 3.2 which was done almost 8 months after the build you are using, so you are going to see serious API breaks and functionality not working with the current combination you have.

The first step is to download Eclipse 3.2 SDK and unzip it to a new dir (don’t reuse an old one) and then load it up, go to Help > Software Updates > Manage Configuraiton, add MyEclipse as an extension and restart. Then make sure it works (Switch to MyEclipse persective for example).

Thanks. You’re right. My version of Eclipse was marked 3.2, so I assumed that it satisfied the MyEclipse requirements. I had also added a few plugins that may have conflicted with MyEclipse. After downloading and installing the most recent Eclipse 3.2 (into a new directory), I reinstalled MyEclipse yet again, and it now both boots and offers many more options than before. I’ve also installed and tried Matisse4MyEclipse. This time, though, I used the directions given in “MyEclipse 5.0 GA for Eclipse 3.2 is Now Available” <http://www.myeclipseide.com/PNphpBB2+file-viewtopic-t-13679.html> instead of the directions in “Installing Matisse4MyEclipse Quickstart” <http://myeclipseide.com/enterpriseworkbench/help/index.jsp?topic=/com.genuitec.eclipse.dehory.doc/doc/install/index.html>. I think that the latter points at an outdated version of Matisse4MyEclipse.

Many thanks for your help.

I’m glad everything is working now. Just a tip, after installing MyEclipse, the easiest way to get M4M is to fire up the Update Manager and select “Find New Features” then use the “MyEclipse Discovery Site”, that will notify you of all other extensions we offer, currently just M4M.
