frankc01aMemberWhat are you guys doing???????????
I did a casual “Check for Updates”, was advised updates were available, followed the restart suggestion after the update and BAM MyEclipse won’t load due to some “Companion Library” not found error.
Don’t ask for information as I can’t load MyEclipse to get it.
Unhappy Customer
Riyad KallaMemberFrank,
If you drill down to your MyEclipse install directory (where the myeclipse.exe file lives) is your myeclipse.ini file still there, or has it been erased? If it has been erased, the contents of that file looks something like this so you can get back up and running quickly:
-startup ../Common\plugins\org.eclipse.equinox.launcher_1.0.101.R34x_v20080819.jar --launcher.library ../Common\plugins\org.eclipse.equinox.launcher.win32.win32.x86_1.0.101.R34x_v20080731 -clean -configuration configuration -vm D:\Java\Applications\Pulse\Common\binary\com.sun.java.jre.win32.x86_1.5.0.011\bin\client\jvm.dll -vmargs -Xmx512M -XX:MaxPermSize=192M
Please change out the D:\Java\Applications… dir with your appropriate one.
tzundelMemberI had a separate thread, located here: https://www.genuitec.com/forums/topic/myeclipse-executable-launcher-and-shared-library-problem/#post-296967
Support instructed me to come here, so here I am.
The directory “C:\Program Files\Genuitec\MyEclipse 7.0” did not have a myeclipse.ini file, so I created one as instructed above.
What is the “Appropriate one”? I installed into the “default” location, and thus tried with “C:\Program Files\Genuitec\Common\binary\com.sun.java.jre.win32.x86_1.5.0.011\bin\client\jvm.dll” (I hope this is right)
Thats what I tried, and still the the message “The MyEclipse executable launcher was unable to locate its companion library”.
I still cannot launch MyEclipse.
I’m dead in the water.
tzundelMemberHello. I hate to be pushy, but I have a due date of tomorrow. I *NEED* to get some version of myeclipse to work today.
Ton HuismanMemberThen get the ME 6.6 release, that doesn’t have the Pulse related stuff on board.

When I got this situation, going from 70 to 7.1 and doing another ‘just for sure’ check for updates, I had that message also. My solution was to completely remove all MyEclipse 7.x related stuff, and then do a full re-install of 7.1 (now I would have used 7.1.1) using the all-in-one package. Then all was just fine, and I presume that’s because the Pulse components where improved enough to get a standard 7.1 install working properly. In the meantime I have upgrade without trouble from 7.1 to 7.1.1 including some intermediate updates, and just today there was another minor fixup (about the dropins and features stuff) that got updated just fine.

tzundelMemberYes, If I don’t hear something in the next couple of minutes, I’ll have to try and blow everything away. All the directories, and files and everything (i’ve seen posts that claim its not exactly easy to uninstall all the MyEclipse and pulse stuff).
I guess I’ll search through the forums till I find some uninstall instructions, and then do the multiple hour install. Sigh.
Support… Is there anything we can do short of me having to reinstall from scratch?
(Will a resinstall work?)

Why do you speak of a multiple hour install? it takes about 10 minutes on my 2.13 GHz dual-core CPU, with a normal SATA disk. Be sure to grab the latest 7.1.1 installer from the download pages.
What’s so special about your setup that is blocking a normal install, maybe a virusscanner or other ‘smart stuff’ software trying to keep you from running into 7 pitholes at once? If you are using ME, then you must be a professional developer, and you are supposed to know what you are doing, so you shouldn’t be working on some locked-down baby-station, instead of a developers workstation!Heads-up, you are going to get there!

Riyad KallaMemberGuys we are working with Tory (and anyone else that is running into this) to get a look at their install state to see why the upgrade is causing a particular flow to occur that kills the ini file. We’ve been internally testing this since Friday with no luck duplicating the break. It doesn’t seem to occur for everyone.
We are also testing another fix that could be causing this mess and the /dropins randomly failing, it was a bad profile definition on our part. We should have that fix rolled out late today.
tzundelMemberHi Riyad,
As you know, we spoke on the phone and got MyEclipse up and running. Thank you for your help. Hopefully the log files I provided will be helpful as well.
However, I do have a followup. (We hung up too early).
Since the reinstall, I don’t get any “help” when I do “ctrl-space” I used to get a auto-completion.
What do I need to do to get this fixed? (I’ve been to Window-preferences->Java->Editor->content assist”, and nothing looks like its wrong. I’ve never messed with these settings.
Thanks,
Tory
tzundelMemberI have gotten my Content Assist to work again. I simply needed to hit “restore defaults”. And it started working. Very Strange.
Consider this closed for me.
(I don’t know the status of Frank’s situation… Sorry Frank, didn’t mean to ‘hijack’ your thread, but support thought we had the same issue, and wanted to track them in the same thread)
Tory
support-joyMemberTory,
Good to hear that everything is sorted out at your end. May I request you to document the steps taken by you and post it here, this might help other forum users facing the same problem.
Thanks for your help.
tzundelMember🙂 Sure… The steps are get on the phone with Riyad and Tim, and push whatever buttons they say to push… 🙂
Okay, a bit more seriously. We did look at my install, and I provided some logs and configuration information to them, to help them diagnose whatever went wrong.
At the end of that, we did a reinstall of MyEclipse, from the all in one installer I downloaded yesterday. (NOTE: We did something a little but unusual, and I don’t think I should ‘publish’ it, as I don’t think its standard operating procedure… Basically, we installed into a different location, so I could keep the old (non-functional) MyEclipse 7.1 around, while having a new (functional) MyEclipse 7.1 that I can use.
I do feel comfortable saying that I downloaded the All In One installer yesterday, and it seemed to work okay. (There are already multiple posts that talk about blowing away your current setup, and reinstalling from scratch — Just follow one of those)
prismmedMemberI find it odd that this is a supported product, yet a support person is asking a user to document a solution for other users’ benefit.
I also have this problem after running the update and this thread has been no help.
Loyal WaterMemberI also have this problem after running the update and this thread has been no help.
Could you please explain what “this problem” means? Are you referring to the companion shared library issue?
