I know that there are still 3 days left, but is MyEclipse 2015 EA still coming as planned by the end of May? Because if not, I can stop looking at these pages over and over 🙂

Thank you very much for the information!

    Lofi,

We’re taking a bit of a delay to do a full Luna integration as well (we had only planned a partial integration earlier). We’re currently working on the RC1 for Luna and will be releasing shortly before the final Luna release when we get our hands on the final version of Luna from Eclipse (Jun 25)

Sorry for the delay and thank you for your patience.

    Thank you Brian.

So from the eclipse release plan:

    RC4 Friday, June 13 06/06 to 06/13 1 1 (from RC3)

Quiet week, June 16 to June 20
(no builds during "quiet week", assumed all code is done by end of RC4

    Release Wednesday, June 25, 2014

I guess the time to visit these pages again will be between June 16 and June 25. Looking forward to it.

Thank you. That’s very good news.

But is there an offline installer? Words can’t express how much I hate online installers …

Can I do update MyEclipse 2014 to 2015 direct from 2014 IDE? Or I have to install it seperately and than use licence key, the same as for 2014?

    Thanks

Is Matisse gone again? Or is there a way to install it via the catalog? I couldn’t find it.

Thank you very much for the help!

edit: never mind, found it in help -> “choose components”. nice 🙂 … i would have preferred that it would be installed by default. if i download 1.6 GB or 1.61 doesn’t matter anymore 😉

I’d like to share my first experience. I leave out the good parts, because the negative parts are the ones that need addressing:

    * installation:

    – my first problem was the online installer. Nothing good comes from it. Please provide an offline installer. As mentioned in earlier posts: No serious company wants a dependency of an external service

    – so I tried to put the installed ME2015 files into a zip/rar. didn’t work, because the file path length was > 260 characters, even though I put everything in a folder as short as C:\x

    * my main focus was on testing the mobile tools:

    – chrome was missing, of course. i only noticed it when i hit the preview simulator button. maybe it would be nice to have that information earlier

    – android development toolkit was missing, so I installed it with the ME installer. Problem was that the Phonegap build didn’t work afterwards because it was missing the path to the adt. It wasn’t configured automatically. I tried to configure it, but the problem was that I couldn’t find the install location. So I had to do a full hard disk search only to find it in c:\users\<username>\android-sdks

    – I didn’t know what the Phonegap project wizard would create, because the simulator didn’t work. The error when trying to preview the phonegap application was: start page is not found in this phonegap application. But the file seemed to be there, I had a www\index.html file which the phonegap project setup wizard created

    – so I tried to include a jQuery page. Setup was more obvious in ME2014, now all the HTML stuff is deprecated. I had to install an HTML5 facet, a mechanism on which I stumbled upon by accident. It shouldn’t be an accident, it should be more obvious. By the way, the jQuery Mobile version you install is outdated.

    – the preview of the Phonegap application still didn’t work, but I tried to build the adk nontheless. That worked. The adk was created, but after the build I got this dialog: “errors occurred during the build. errors running builder ‘Phonegap Project Builder’ on project ‘PhoneGap1’. java.lang.NullPointerException” with no additional information. However, when I installed the adk on my mobile device, it worked

Needs some polishing here and there, but all in all it’s nice. Thank you very much 🙂

    Lofi,

We’ve moved your mobile comments to a separate thread: https://www.genuitec.com/forums/topic/issues-with-phonegap-tooling-in-2015-ci/
I will address them there shortly.

As far as the installer is concerned, no offline installer is currently planned. The reasons behind this are:
    1) Releases on this stream will be frequent, 2-3 weeks apart. Also, for GA releases, we will definitely make offline installers available.
    2) Updates will be incremental, so if you update from this CI1 release to CI2, it would be a question of a few hundred megabytes, not a gigabyte.
    3) The online installers are very robust, capable of handling bad network conditions and recovering from broken installs, so the overall install experience should be similar to downloading an offline installer and running it. If your experience with the online installer isn’t good, please let us know.

    Thoughts?

    – so I tried to put the installed ME2015 files into a zip/rar. didn’t work, because the file path length was > 260 characters, even though I put everything in a folder as short as C:\x

While I don’t recommend this, if you must, use 7-Zip – Winzip/WinRAR just won’t work and you’ll run into the path problem.

    stanleek,

I’ll check with the server team on hiding those items and let you know.

    Hello Brian,

    regarding offline vs online installers:

    – we still use MyEclipse 8.6 on our long-running project. So whenever a new colleague comes into the team, I give him the file and installation instructions. Where can I download MyEclipse 8.6 from the myeclipseide.com site? I can’t find it anymore

    – i just have to reinstall ME2015. it’s happening right now and will be finished after I typed this. So the online installer would be just a waste of my personal time because it takes far longer

    – for the online installer I have to rely on your service and I have to rely on the installer functioning property. That’s a dependency that a company doesn’t want and which can easily be avoided by providing offline installers

I made e. g. an experience with Andy (android emulator for windows) yesterday: First I downloaded 35MB. I thought that was it. Well, it wasn’t. Then it downloaded a 150 MB and installed stuff, then 200 MB and then again something and another and in the end it didn’t work. Just an example. I’ve had bad experience with other installers. The best part is always when you can’t uninstall a broken install and have to find your way through the windows registry. Of course everyone claims that their installer works. Well, until they don’t.

( my ME2015 install is just finished, btw. see my point? 😉 )

Offline installers are far superior in comparison to online installers. Download capacity isn’t an issue anymore these days.

Another example: I installed efxclipse last week. I downloaded some zip file, extracted it to the folder of my choice, started the main program and was done with it. That’s how it should be 😉

Thank you very much for your consideration.

We discourage the download of very old versions because of the obvious differences between a product that is five years old and one released today – we already have to field many questions from users who encounter problems in 8.6 that have been fixed in recent versions. Another issue with 8.6 is that it does not include an activation requirement, making it very easy to pirate.

Having said that, legitimate customers can always write to us with their keys and code at [email protected] and we’ll be happy to provide you with a link to an offline installer for any version of MyEclipse.

    – i just have to reinstall ME2015. it’s happening right now and will be finished after I typed this. So the online installer would be just a waste of my personal time because it takes far longer

Clear, can you tell me why you had to reinstall? As stated earlier, the online installer is capable of repair which should be quicker on the download front as well. Would like to know more about your specific usage patterns here.

Agreed, you do need to ensure that both you and our service is online (the latter hasn’t seen downtime in ages). Again, for a GA release (which your company should depend on, not the CI release) we will definitely make the offline installers available – they have been made available for all GA releases of MyEclipse till date, we don’t show the older releases for reasons mentioned above.

I will take your comments up to our executive team, we’ll be monitoring the situation with our CI releases to see if others would like an offline installer as well.

From a company’s point of view: Why switch to a newer system when the one you have works and the new one doesn’t provide any additional benefit for your needs. Well, our 8.6 does have an activation requirement. I know for sure, because it’s starting to get very annoying with popups about 1 month before the 1 year membership is about to be over 🙂

I installed it inside a virtual machine. I don’t want to mess up my system with stuff I haven’t tried before. Wouldn’t be the first time I’d have to fix files in the windows system folder, fix the registry, etc. Not that I wouldn’t trust you guys, but experience has made me careful. And working in a VM is almost as fast as on the host environment.

That’s subscription, not activation – activation requires some contact with our sever as well. You would probably have gone through this with more recent versions.

    Clear on re-install scenario. Thanks!
