I have the same problem which appears sometimes after using rename variable feature.
Besides this feature does not rename all the occurences of the variable (it seems it does not use refactoring but only renames the variable in the form definition file and in initialization part of java file), it also hangs the whole eclipse very often. Sometimes the swing component being renamed is lost from the form or java file. When I manually correct the files, they both seem consistent except i’m not able to add any new swing component to the form and save it.
I get the same exception as was described here in the error view, but no error dialog is displayed.

I use SVN, but the problem occures when the project is disconnected from CVS, too.

I tried MyEclipse 5.5 (5.4?) with M4M 5.4 from development downloads with the same results.

I use UTF-8 encoding.
